The River Trent Book

The River Trent Book

The River Trent

The River Trent spent many years as little more than a waterway used to take human and industrial waste away and out to sea. However, the river has changed immensely over the last forty years and now must be classed as one of the finest rivers in the country for barbel and a number of other species.

You’ll hear a number of references throughout the book about the effect that shutting down the fossil fuel burning power stations along the Trent had during the 90s. This had a monumental effect, turning the river from the artificially heated Petri dish it was, down to a temperature that made all the natural life flourish, which in turn gave all species of fish a veritable smorgasbord of new food to feast on. As a consequence, the average size, weight and life span of all species increased substantially, and within fifteen years the average size of the river’s barbel had gone from about 4lb to about 9lb, which provides some wonderful sport for any river angler.

I was delighted when the contributors all jumped at the chance to be part of this project as they were all keen to detail some of their stories in a chapter about the river. Which illustrates how much the river means to them. The chapters cover everything from assuming stories of a lifetime fishing the Trent, examples of what can happen during red letter sessions and also, some very helpful tips and advice on how to get the best out of your time angling on the River Trent.

This wonderful book covers a number of species, including barbel, carp, pike, perch, zander, chub and grayling. Some of the contributors are well known and have written a number of articles and books before, however a number of contributors are less well known and this is their first time in print.

Thank you all and I hope you enjoy the read.
